We would like to evaluate the methyl halide emission potential with respect to ponderosa forest.
First, we would like to quantitatively explore the methyl halide emissions magnitude from Ponderosa forest by setting up branch chambers to enclose the branches with ambient air pumped in and out, both connected to air canister for temporary storage then measured by gas analyzer, GC-FID. We will also conduct the chamber incubation at different time of a day and under different weather conditions, exploring the relation between gas fluxes and meteorological factors that may affect methyl halide emissions, such as Photosynthetic Active Radiation, temperature, hydrological conditions, etc. Concurrently, we would like to explore the option to set up our REA system, which could measure the gas concentrations at the up- and down-drift of eddies and wind velocity and direction at the same to calculate the ecosystem scale gas exchange rates continuously.
