I plan to collect Carpenter ants for a study of their phylogeography across the California floristic province and California Channel Islands. Fieldwork will involve collecting representative workers (~5) from 3 distinct nests of three species whose range overlaps with Sagehen Creek reserve (C. hyatti, C. semitestaceus, C. clarithorax) using standardized ant sampling techniques: branch beating, visual surveys, under rock surveys. I will take care to minimize impact of nest sites and surrounding habitat.
